Joe Boylan of Mr. Wonderful competed in this year's Cut & Paste Global Championship for Motion Graphics. He won the New York City championship in Fall 2010 with his piece entitled "Ahead of Its Time". This year, he was one of 9 competitors from across the globe. Contestants only had 8 hours to create an original 15-second animation. Buoyed by some great sound design by Northern Lights' Ted Gannon, Boylan's take on this year's theme of "Gaining Independence" demonstrates just how scary oil dependence can be.
Versus contacted Mr. Wonderful to come up with a high-energy, adrenaline filled spot that could best capture the energy of tailgating at the country's greatest college football games. Along with some top-notch copy from our partners at Bodega, we directed design and animation that incorporates everything that makes tailgating fun - grilling, football, and of course, cheerleaders.
Mr. Wonderful designer/animator Joe Boylan took home the second annual Cut&Paste NYC Motion Graphics championship. Tasked with creating an original 15-second animation in only 8 hours, the only pre-made elements contestants were allowed to use were audio tracks and still images. With some killer sound design by Damon Trotta and Ted Gannon of sister company Northern Lights, Joe took home the gold. World Championships in February, here we come!
